This old bridge was built in 1912-1913. The construction was supervised by a German engineer, Kurt Beyer.

This attraction is small but quite photogenic, as a small stream runs underneath it, a mountain in the background, and the arched weight-bearing beam makes the bridge stand out (Arch Bridge).

This attraction is on the side of the road. So, it’s not bad to stop by and take a few photos before continuing your journey.

Not long after that, he realized by himself that the cave was in the Southern region. So, he set out to find it and finally found this place.

The Red Barrel Memorial

The Red Barrel Historical Park Phatthalung

The monument that the people of Srinakarin District built to tell the story of their community. The point of interest is the red barrel on the second floor of the building.

It’s not a very interesting attraction by itself. But its story is very interesting and depressing beyond imagination.

The Red Barrel Historical Park Phatthalung

A short story of the red barrel

In the past, there were a lot of thieves in this area. The villagers then gathered together to watch out for the thieves. But that time was when communism spread its influence into Thailand.

The government mistook the villagers who gathered together to be communists. Therefore, they arrested people in the village and interrogated them violently.

Anyone who was seriously injured was put in a red barrel and burned before dumping the ashes into the water.

In the end, the villagers couldn’t stand it. So, they joined the communism and fierce battles erupted in this area. Until the incident was resolved by the government of General Prem Tinsulanonda.

This red barrel is a memorial to those who have passed away and reminds everyone that violence cannot solve any problem.

The story here is related to Sin Prae Thong Network Learning Center, and you still can listen to the story from a man who experienced the event there.
