Visiting the Red Lotus Lake, Nong Han Kumphawapi, Udon Thani.

The Red Lotus Lake at “Nong Han Kumphawapi” lake is one of the most popular attractions in Udon Thani province. It’s definitely worth a visit, but you have to come at the right time.

Overview

Before this trip, I understood that “Nong Han Kumphawapi” was a large lake with beautiful red lotus flowers.

But in reality, not only the lake is larger than I thought, the atmosphere of sitting on the boat is also very impressive.

The weather is cool and comfortable, the soft sunlight in the morning shines through the clouds, small birds fly around the boat, countless red lotus flowers are in the wide lake as far as the eye can see.

The boat driver told me that there are a lot of lotus flowers from December to late February. But this year the cold came late, so the second lotus field is still blooming.

The Best Time to Visit

  • There are a lot of lotus flowers from December to late February. We went there on February 22, there are still a lot of lotus flowers.
  • It is recommended to arrive at the pier around 06:30 because the lotus flowers will close later in the day.
  • It takes about 90 minutes per round.

Price for a Boat Ride

  • A large boat can sit 6 people, 500 baht per boat.
  • A small boat can sit 2 people, 300 baht per boat.
  • The large boat has a roof, it’s more comfortable to sit, but the small boat can get closer to the lotus flowers.
  • If you like to take model photos, let the model sits in a small boat, and the photographer sits in another boat, you will get a variety of views.

My Equipments

  • I use Nikon Z6 with a 40mm lens, I have to crop the image quite a bit.
  • I think 24-70mm is suitable because you can take pictures of both the lotus in the lake and the model at the head of the boat.
