The oldest temple in Phatthalung, Wat Khuha Sawan, was built during the Ayutthaya era, but the date of construction and founder are unknown.
The temple was abandoned before being renovated in 1909 and later became a royal temple.
Wat Khuha Sawan is ideal for those who enjoy peaceful historical attractions with a hint of mystery in the cave.
Attractions in Wat Khuha Sawan
The Main Chapel
The small chapel is located in front of the Shrine of Luang Pu Thuat and Khuha Sawan Cave. Unfortunately, it is closed so we could not get inside.
Shrine of Luang Pu Thuat
Thai people, especially in the South, highly respect Luang Pu Thuat. You can pay homage to his statue in the shrine.
Khuha Sawan Cave
This location has been visited multiple times by various members of Thailand’s Royal Family, including kings. Above the cave entrance, you’ll find their signatures.
Two hermit statues can be found on the right side of the entrance, below the signatures. According to the folklore, it is believed that they house the ashes of Grandfather Sam Mo and Grandmother Phet, two significant individuals.
Inside, you’ll find a large reclining Buddha and several other Buddha statues, a few of which have LED lights in their eyes.
The cave has multiple levels and a stair that goes underground, but we were too scared to go down because of the dim light and eerie atmosphere.
Nang Khlot Cave
On the right side of the temple, Nang Khlot Cave houses a variety of Buddha statues and other deities. Inside, there are many bats, and we could smell a smell of their droppings.
Despite its mysterious charm, my wife and I were too afraid to enter the cave.
The Ancient Pagoda
On top of the mountain, there is an ancient pagoda, but we couldn’t find a suitable path to go up there.
